Building

Our Approach

With a sustainable approach, focused on best value, safety and delivery excellence, our buildings teams are focussed on delivering buildings maintenance and renewals projects for clients in the infrastructure sector.

Our experienced and highly skilled buildings teams are qualified to work on the UK’s rail network and highways infrastructure, having a wealth of experience working on buildings assets for public sector and blue-chip clients.

Four-time winners of National Railway Heritage Awards, for work restoring Grade II listed signal boxes and railway stations, our teams are capable of delivering minor works buildings repairs to complex building restoration works and everything in between.

Often working in busy environments which must remain operational during renovation works, our teams understand the importance of carefully planning the logistical challenges of delivering works whilst maintaining the customer experience at the forefront.

Bingley Station Roof Refurbishment

CML recently completed the refurbishment of the dilapidated roof of the Grade ll listed Bingley Train Station. This included the removal of all existing roof elements to allow extensive repairs to the timber members of the roof structure and the re-construction of the 4 existing chimney stacks that had twisted and distorted over time.

The works to the roof also included a full re-construction of the flat roof section including insulating and waterproofing and installing a new roof lantern. Elsewhere, a total of 24 inspection hatches were installed to both platform canopies to allow future access to undertake maintenance works and repairs to various heritage guttering and drainage systems around the station buildings.

Due to the listed nature of the building, the elements which were removed were stored and reinstated on the roof to keep the original aesthetic of the building in line with the requirements of the local authorities conservation team and Network Rail. We also liaised with local group, Friends of Bingley & Crossflats Stations, to provide an overview of the planned works and worked closely with Northern Rail throughout the project to ensure as little disruption to rail users and our railway neighbours as possible.

The project was delivered in conjunction with our supply chain partners Everlast Group, Lea Scaffolding, UNI-safe Access and JNP Group design house.

  • Thanks for the stellar efforts of your team this week. It’s been a very impressive collective response - and rapid - to a problem that would take a far longer time to scale, plan and deliver were it setup as a conventional project.

Your team have done a brilliant job, working round the clock like this and pulling everything together in such short timescales is a challenging ask, the way the work has been managed and completed with no safety issues and minimal social complaints from the community has been impressive, as is the seamless nature all the teams have integrated.

    Thankyou for your support.

  • Community Engagement

During the last year, we were actively involved in ‘Give Construction a Try‘, a community interest company that exists to promote construction as a career to schoolchildren in areas of extreme deprivation and in the last twelve months have engaged with over 300 school leavers who would otherwise be likely to be designated as Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).
