Community Engagement

Volunteering Programme

In September we launched our Volunteering programme across the business. This programme is one of the pillars of our Sustainability strategy, and formalises some of the good work that CML have a reputation for carrying out as a matter of course without necessarily recording it.

During the last year, we were actively involved in ‘Give Construction a Try‘, a community interest company that exists to promote construction as a career to schoolchildren in areas of extreme deprivation and in the last twelve months have engaged with over 300 school leavers who would otherwise be likely to be designated as Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).

STEM Learning

CML recently worked with CECA engaging young people at 8th South Leeds Scout Group, promoting STEM activities.  The group was challenged to build a tetrahedron, using wooden dowels and elastic bands.

The Beavers really impressed us with their problem solving and teamworking skills to build a 2ft tall model, and the Cubs and Scouts managed to make a roof high tetrahedron to be proud of! Some budding engineers in the group!

Working with training providers

CML also work with local colleges, universities and training providers to ensure that the curriculum offered reflects industry needs, and are represented on the Employer Advisory Boards at Leeds College of Building and Leeds Beckett University.

Additionally, Leeds College of Building has a CML employee as a Director and Governor, and during the last academic year we exceeded our FE & HE engagement target of 10 days per year.
