We’re pleased to share that essential works on the Grade II listed Porte Cochere gable ends at Darlington Station, are nearing completion.
The programme included:
- Careful removal and reinstatement of the gable ends
- Surface treatment & painting of the internal timber soffit
- Remedial works to restore and preserve the historic fabric of the structure
Over the years, the gables have naturally deteriorated, and these works have ensured they are brought back into a safe and durable condition while respecting their heritage value.
These works form part of the wider station improvements and upgrades being delivered in partnership with London North Eastern Railway, Network Rail, and the local authority.
The restored structures will be handed back to LNER and the local authority as part of the broader Darlington regeneration scheme. We are pleased to have had on board specialist suppliers including Henley Construction Management Group to achieve this milestone.
CML are proud to be contributing to the preservation and enhancement of this historic station for future generations. Perfect timing for the Railway 200 celebrations, where CML also volunteered to distribute Emily the Engineer magazines for Network Rail in September whilst the Railway 200 Inspiration train was stabled at the station.
