2025 - ICW Awards - Internal Collaboration Award - Winner

Internal Collaboration Award

CML won the Internal Collaboration Award at the 11th Institute of Collaborative Working at the House of Lords in November 2025.

Our submission showcased our ISO 44001-certified collaboration between our Commercial and Operations teams. By adopting a formal, structured approach to internal collaboration, we’ve unlocked value far beyond what traditional “business as usual” could deliver.

Through our Collaborative Business Relationship Management System (CBRMS), combined with our Integrated Management System, we’ve strengthened cross-functional collaboration, fostered value-driven outcomes, and built a culture that develops collaborative behaviours and people across our business.

The event was an opportunity to celebrate and congratulate both winners and runners-up for their exceptional work and showcasing the value of collaborative working in action. The volume and diversity of organisations that submitted their applications highlighted how working together can address and overcome many key business challenges, and exemplified the power of high performing collaborative teams.

2024 - CECA Yorkshire & Humber Awards - Project of the Year under £1m

CML were proud to be awarded Project of the year (under £1m) for the Dewsbury Emergency Landslip Response.

A collapsed section of a 5m high masonry retaining wall at Dewsbury resulted in the partial closure of the railway between Manchester and Leeds. To make safe and re-open the railway as soon as possible, a granular fill berm solution was selected to reinstate support to the railway. Over the course of the next 72 hours, our teams worked around the clock to install over 2500 tonnes of compacted fill, enabling the railway to reopen safely at line speed.

2022 CECA Yorkshire & Humber Awards - 'Going the Extra Mile' Award Winner

The Covid-19 pandemic changed everything forever at CML.

Through our reactive works framework partnership with Network Rail, we continued to operate at full capacity throughout the length of the pandemic, and to do this we needed to go the extra mile for our people who were classed as critical workers, and also for the people who supported them.

We consider our people to be our best asset, how the planned investment in our offices changed to reflect hybrid working, and how our entire IT infrastructure was transformed in an impossibly short timespan to ensure that Network Rail continued to receive an undisrupted level of service throughout the pandemic, resulting in CML becoming their partner of choice.

2020 CECA Yorkshire & Humber Awards - Linda Grant Safety Award – Highly Commended

CML’s structures team received Highly Commended for the station improvement works undertaken at South Elmsall Station.

Concerns over asset condition and public safety spurred this project at South Elmsall Station. The corroding staircases to platforms 1 and 2 were temporarily removed for refurbishment off-site. This included blast cleaning, repainting, adding ‘warm touch’ handrails for arthritis sufferers, and installing new anti-slip treads.

Platform improvements focused on passenger safety during train boarding and alighting, including macadam repairs, re-setting tactiles, and renewing platform lining to eliminate trip hazards.

The project was finished on time and within budget, greatly enhancing the station’s environment. The new safety measures for station access and train services have been positively received by passengers.

2019 CECA Yorkshire & Humber Awards - Linda Grant Safety Award - Winner

CML’s delivery team, led by Carlton Worville and Stuart Reader won this award in recognition for the way they responded in dealing with a number of unexploded armaments. The team were commended for the well-communicated and professional manner in which they implemented safety protocols in a real-time situation and managed the risks of this very rare yet potentially high-risk scenario.
