As part of our commitment to supporting the local community, this year our Leeds and Dinnington offices have been collecting for a Yorkshire homeless charity, Homeless Leeds Support Group which includes Rotherham Street Kitchen.
The charity, which is run by small teams of dedicated volunteers, use donated ingredients to cook and serve hot meals to dozens of homeless or rough sleepers in the centre of Leeds and Rotherham. They also provide clothes, sleeping bags, food parcels and white goods to the homeless and people suffering from food insecurity.
Staff brought in items such as food, winter coats, blankets and warm clothes and CML has made a donation, including high viz jackets for the volunteers. We met Andy Cusworth – one of the volunteers from the Rotherham Street Kitchen when he came to our Dinnington Office to collect the donations.
Andy said “The support from CML staff and the donation from the company has given our volunteers a huge boost. They cook the meals before setting up in Rotherham town centre twice a week. Some of the people who end up rough sleeping have tragic stories to tell. We provide a free meal, warm clothes and hope that someone cares. The CML donation means we can provide more hot meals and proper outdoor clothing.”
