CML’s Western Region Team are on the home straight to complete repairs to Athelney Embankment in Taunton on the Castle Cary and Langport line early next month. The site, located on the River Tone Flood Plain, suffered severe flood damage causing washout failures to a 700m stretch of railway embankment.
Our team have been on site since June, re-building the embankment slopes, and installing Maccaferri MacMat-R reinforced geo-mat, anchored to the newly reformed embankment to provide erosion protection. There’s a few photos below of a new innovation which our team designed and built for this project, which apparently has been named the ‘T-Bar’! The T-Bar, shown here attached to a 14 tonne long reach excavator, provides a quick and safe method for placing heavy duty geotextiles on steep slopes, reducing manual handling, and providing safe anchor points for site operatives to work from.
